Simply sign up as a Student or Host, complete verification, and you're ready to go. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes.

Is RoomNest really free for students?

Yes! RoomNest is completely free for students. There are no signup fees, no application fees, no hidden charges. You only pay rent to your host.

What universities does RoomNest serve?

We're launching with major universities in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and other South African cities. Check our platform to see if your university is covered.

For Students

How do I find a room?

Build your profile, verify your student status, and browse available rooms. Filter by location, price, amenities, and other preferences.

How long does it take to get approved?

With proof of enrollment, you're typically approved the same day - often within minutes. No waiting, no cover letters required.

What counts as proof of enrollment?

Student card, registration letter from your institution, or enrollment certificate all work. Any official document from your university is accepted.

Can I use my bursary for rent?

Yes! We support bursary payments directly from your institution. No out-of-pocket payments needed if your bursary covers rent.

What payment methods are available?

We support bank transfers, debit cards, credit cards, and mobile money. Choose what works best for you.

Can I change my payment method later?

Yes, you can update your payment method anytime through your dashboard settings.

For Hosts

How do I list my property?

Sign up as a Host, complete your profile, add your property details, upload photos, and set your pricing. Start accepting applications immediately.

What are your host requirements?

You must own or legally manage the property. Valid ID and proof of ownership/management rights are required.

How do tenant payments work?

Rent is collected securely through RoomNest and transferred to you automatically. You never handle cash.

What if a tenant doesn't pay?

We have robust payment collection. If issues arise, our support team helps resolve them quickly.

Safety & Verification

How do you verify students?

We require official proof of enrollment from your institution. All students are verified before being matched with hosts.

How do you verify hosts?

Hosts must provide valid ID and proof that they own or legally manage the property.

Is my information secure?

Yes. We use enterprise-grade encryption and follow strict data protection standards. Your information is never shared without consent.

What if there's a dispute?

Our support team mediates disputes quickly and fairly. We have dispute resolution procedures to protect both parties.

Leases & Agreements

Do you provide lease agreements?

Yes! RoomNest generates standardized lease agreements automatically. Both parties get a copy for legal protection.

Can I customize lease terms?

Leases follow standard South African rental law. Custom terms should be agreed separately before accepting the RoomNest lease.

How long can I lease for?

You can set lease terms from 3 to 12 months, or negotiate custom periods with your host.

What happens at lease end?

You can renew with your host, find a new room, or leave. The process is flexible and designed for student needs.

Account & Support

How do I update my profile?

Log in to your account and go to Settings. You can update personal info, payment details, and preferences anytime.

How do I delete my account?

Contact support at hello@roomnest.co.za with your account details. We'll help with account deletion.

What if I forget my password?

Use the 'Forgot Password' link on the login page. We'll send you a reset link via email.
